2046, c’est avant tout l’histoire d’un secret, d’un secret qui traverse et hante le héros de ce film, mais surtout, lui tient lieu de consistance. Dans cette étude, nous nous proposons de faire la topologie de ce secret et du rite qui le symbolise, secret qui, trouvant sa source dans l’amour malheureux dépeint dans In the mood for Love, constitue le cœur de la trame narrative de 2046. Cette analyse d’inspiration lacanienne du secret comme signifiant-maître nous permettra de rendre compte de la mise en consistance du sujet du secret, en nous penchant plus particulièrement sur sa tentative de représenter sasouffrance par l’entremise de son processus d’écriture. C’est à cette occasion que surgira un personnage absolument déterminant pour le déroulement du film, l’androïde à réactions émotionnelles différées.
Dans un deuxième temps, sortant quelque peu de l’œuvre même pour aller à la rencontre du monde dans lequel elle cherche à s’inscrire, nous discuterons brièvement de l’interprétation de deux spécialistes de l’oeuvre de Kar-Wai, Peter Brunette et Ackbar Abbas. En résistant à la tentation d’interpréter les dysfonctions émotionnelles des personnages de Wong Kar- Wai simplement en termes psychologiques, nous poserons la question suivante: Quel est le sens des disjonctions formelles et émotionnelles si caractéristiques de l’œuvre de Wong Kar-Wai? Un retour sur la figure de l’androïde à réactions émotionnelles différées nous montrera que la stratégie de représentation de l’espace abstrait du capitalisme tardif dans l’œuvre de Wong Kar-Wai résiste subtilement à une lecture simplement psychanalytique et participe ainsi à l’émergence de nouvelles formes de subjectivités. |
| Abstract |
2046 is the story of a secret, a secret which goes through the hero of the movie and haunts him, but more important, gives him a composure. In this text, I will try to outline the topology of this secret that originates in the non-reciprocal love depicted in In the Mood for Love , and which constitutes the core of 2046 's plot. This Lacanian analysis of the secret as a master signifier and the rite by which it is symbolized will permit us to understand the process of mise en consistance of the subject of the secret, and especially, the central role of his writing process in the attempt at representing his suffering. It is in the context of this writing process that will emerge the core figure of the movie, the android with delayed emotional reactions.
This topology of the secret will be followed by a discussion of two Wong Kar-Wai's specialists, Peter Brunette and Ackbar Abbas. By resisting the temptation to read Wong Kar-Wai's characters' emotional dysfunctions as symptoms of their personal pathologies, as a simply psychoanalytical reading would lead us to, I will address the following question: Why has Wong so cleverly orchestrated these formal and emotional disjunctions in his films? Through a close analysis of the android with delayed emotions, I will show how Wong's representational strategy of the abstract space of late capitalism contributes to producing new forms of subjectivity. |
